Mistral AI Game Jam

Last weekend, from January 24 to 26, our team participated in the Mistral AI Hackathon Game Jam Edition. This was my second hackathon, and it turned out to be a highly rewarding experience.
Directing the Chaos
We built a game called "Make Debates Great Again". Have you ever watched a TV debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump and thought you could stir things up? Now is your chance.

You play as a TV journalist. You toss out spicy topics and watch the candidates try to win over the public, though sometimes they completely derail themselves.
Your mission is to follow secret earpiece instructions. You need to nudge the debate along without pushing too hard. If you push too far, they might storm off mid-show. You guide the chaos instead of controlling it.

System Design
For the visuals and mechanics, we used Unity 3D and C#. This combination handled the player inputs and animations.
The real-time AI interactions were powered by Mistral AI and ElevenLabs. Mistral handled the language models while ElevenLabs generated the lifelike voices.
We also built an agentic system in Python to manage the dynamic state between the player and the candidates. This included a referee system that evaluates candidate anger levels for added unpredictability.

Weekend Atmosphere
Seeing so many talented developers create games in one weekend was a great experience. The energy in the room was high throughout the event.

Huge shoutout to my team: Hugo Vazquez, Gabriel Vidal-Ayrinhac, Louis Martinez, Gabriel Kasmi, and Raphaël Jean. Thanks to Photoroom for hosting us in their offices. Thanks also to Mistral AI, Nebius, Hugging Face, Scaleway, Entrepreneurs First, Balderton, and ElevenLabs for organizing the event.
